mumbai meri jaan
Welcome to Chaupati ..!!
In 1534 AD, the Portuguese rulers took Bombay islands by force from the Muslim rulers. They named the city as "Bom Baia" which in Portuguese means "Good Bay". Later, in 1668 these islands were acquired by the English East India Company on lease from the crown for an annual sum of 10 pounds in gold. This was because larger vessels and ships could easily dock, and found the islands of Bombay ideal for development and trade. The British changed the Portuguese name "Bom Baia" to "Bombay". Mumbaikar believes the name Mumbai is after the goddess Mumbadevi which protects the Mumbai City. The name Bombay was later changed to Mumbai to protect its loosing Heritage and interest of mumbaikars.
Mumbai Chaupati is the big, blue, Divine beach of Arabian Sea that the city is blessed with. This is the most happening place in the city where people from richest to poorest class enjoy the most memorable moments. Chaupati has many hot spots. Apart from roaring sea and golden sand, it has beggers, toy sellers, baloonwallas, sugar candies, car sweepers, kulfi wallas, kids and their castles, young couple with their castles (usually they build them in air) and old couple watching all this and remembering how they used to build their castles :)
Chaupati has a place for everyone and so does this blog. My effort is dedicated to all the mumbaikars and this beautiful city.
Keep coming and contribute to this journey with your magical touch.
-Mumbaikar
