How it was 90% voting in Ghatkopar?

Welcome to chaupati !

I am neither a politician nor my knowledge about politics is good enough to comment on the political situations in Mumbai. I don't want to trigger here a political discussion by any chance. But chaupati can hardly stay away from politics. Mumbai chaupati witnesses huge political meetings & speeches by popular leaders. Those meetings are often attended by lakhs of mumbaikars (& outsiders) who inturn are paid an allowance and are given food & drinks. I have seen truck loads of people heading to chupati with colourful band on forehead, shouting catchy slogans & making a huge noise. Politicians often use it as a show off of their political & social presence. Ah .. having said I don't want to talk about politics..still I wrote a bunch about it. Let me cut it short and come to the point.

Today's headline was 90% voters in Ghatkopar turned out for voting whereas city's average was 45%. What's the secret behind it ? If you answer 'Politics' you are wrong .. !!!

Three housing socities in Ghatkopar arranged voluntarily facilities for voters so that voting is a pleasant excercise. There were elaborate breakfast and lunches, unlimited tea and coffee, help desks and special vehicles to ferry senior citizens to polling booths on offer at the three housing societies -- Anant Chhaya on the 60-feet Road, Neelkanth Valley on MG Road, and Sanghani Estate near Shreyas Talkies -- all aimed at getting more and more voters out of their houses and into polling booths. And all this was done by the residents voluntarily, without involving any political party.

Often Mumbai has set an example of how to live life. I can sight so many examples. During heavy rains in mumbai, mumbaikars who were safe in their homes ..came out to help others who were struggling to make a way back to their homes. When anti-social elements wanted to break mumbaikars' will power by local train blasts, mumbaikar again overpowered them by setting it upright in just 1 hour. Often Ganesha festival & Eid comes on the same day & mumbaikar show the spirit of unity by celebrating it together. I think I can dedicate a new blog for it :)

So that's it for today. I am getting addicted to this blogging and assure you that you will get quality stuff here in coming days.
